14-gauge (2.25”x2.25”) steel tubing is the standard for the metal building industry. If you live in an area with significantly higher wind, rain, and snow activity than average, you may want to upgrade to 12 gauge steel, which has higher wind and snow load ratings. You may think that choosing a roof style is all about appearance, but when it comes to metal buildings, it’s all about climate. If you live in an area with very mild weather, a regular roof is all you will need. If you live in an area with high winds, but little snow, we recommend the A-frame, or “boxed-eave”.
